Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
